Excuses, Toss em Out The Window!!

As I work toward my 5 year date of August 5th 2010 I talk to many different people about the journey. So many times I hear “I’m too old to do that” or “I don’t have the energy to do anything any more”. I get so frustrated with these people because really they are just excuses. They are buying into their own bad story instead of creating a better one for themselves.

My mentor Maritza Parra told me about this amazing woman who takes both of these excuses and tosses them out the window!!!

Inspired by Lemonade The Movie

I watched the movie “Lemonade, It’s Not A Pink Slip, It’s a Blank Page” recently and realized that I am in a pretty similar place. I will be leaving my job, but not because of a pink slip but because I have paid the price and have been working towards it for almost five years. As you can see from that count down clock I only have 164 days to go on the day that I write this post.

Then I wonder would I have been able to accomplish all of this even faster had I received the pink slip. AND after lots of thought I realize the answer is NO, emphatically NO! The reason for that is because I did not have the skills, knowledge or confidence when I first started on this journey.

I have been following Erik Proulx on Twitter and it is awesome how getting the pink slip has changed his life.

In order to get a good shot of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Flame you need to get there pretty early in the morning. Doing what it takes is part of plan to escape from slave camp to freedom so I went down at 7AM! As you can see from this video I was pretty successful at getting close to the flame

Where ever you turn there are countdown clocks for important events. They help to keep us focused and to instill the sense of urgency. Where is your countdown clock? Is it just in your head? As a tool to assist you in achieving your dream, vision or goal it is much more effective to be able to see it, hence so many count down clocks.

Tom Brokaw, the venerable newsman turned commentator, has recently been promoting his new project: an examination of the baby boomer generation and its impending retirement.

The series will debut on CNBC this week and is sure to be enlightening, if not downright depressing. The truth is that very few boomers are prepared, and, while ignorance may be bliss, indigence is not. There is no time like the present to do a self-administered financial reality check, so let’s begin.

Baby boomers are defined as those born between 1946 and 1964. The massive wave of humanity that is this generation has changed everything along the way, and will continue to do so in retirement. During the 1950s and ’60s, schools had to be built to accommodate this group. In the following two decades, they strained the housing markets and turned the employment picture on its ear.
